Manchester City Womens striker Nikita Parris was destined to play for England, according to big sister and Team GB Olympic heroine Natasha Jonas. Former Everton Ladies striker Parris impressed after making her full international debut earlier this year, ending the competitive season with three goals in Englands last three Euro 2017 qualifiers. She was destined to play for England and I always felt it was only a matter of time, Jonas told Sky Sports. Shes absolutely smashed every game that shes played in and shes transferred what she has done for City onto the international stage. Parris is part of an England squad that feature team-mates Toni Duggan (top) and Jill Scott Thats not always easy and I think the fact that she is surrounded by so many of her team-mates at club level has helped her because they know and understand how she plays. She plays with her heart on her sleeve and I know she will keep trying to put her best performances in to stay in that team [ahead of next summers Euros].Jonas was a talented footballer herself, earning a scholarship to play in America as a teenager, before a knee injury ended her football career prematurely. Parris won a FA WSL1 and Continental Cup double with Manchester City this season She turned her hand to boxing upon returning to England and went on to win a world bronze medal before making history at London 2012 as Team GBs first female Olympic boxer. It could have been oh so different. It could have been both of us in an England shirt, Jonas said. When that injury ended my career, naturally, I was very disappointed but as that door shut another one opened and I took my opportunity.I ended up going to the Olympics from it after all was said and done so it didnt turn out too badly. Jonas was a left-winger before she took up boxing Jonas announced her retirement from boxing in April last year after falling pregnant. She gave birth to baby Mela in December and the 32-year-old says she is enjoying every minute of motherhood.Shes 11 months old now so Im just planning her first birthday now, she said.Being a mum is a different experience for me but the most enjoyable one of my life so far. Melas just started to crawl and she loves getting down on the floor and getting into mischief everywhere but shes still probably a bit too young to put on the boxing gloves just yet! Queensland Reds are poised to complete the signing of returning Wallabies five-eighth Quade Cooper after locking in Nick Stiles as their new head coach.Cooper last week endorsed Stiles, his former mentor with Brisbane City in the National Rugby Championship, as his preferred selection as Reds boss as he prepares for a Super Rugby return. The mercurial 28-year-old has signed a heads of agreement with the Australian Rugby Union after leaving Toulon earlier this month, allowing him to become immediately eligible for the Wallabies, but he is yet to commit to a franchise. However, Stiles appointment makes it all but a foregone conclusion that Cooper will be back at Ballymore in 2017.Ive got a good relationship with Quade. Hes a Queensland Red, hes passionate about the place and hopefully we can get that sorted moving forward, Stiles told reporters on Tuesday.Cooper, who waas also being courted by the Melbourne Rebels, is currently training with the Wallabies in Sydney and remains in regular contact with the Queensland Rugby Union, according to executive general manager Daniel Herbert.ddddddddddddHed really round out our team list very well for 2017 if he did (come back), Herbert said. However, Cooper is likely to be the Reds final major signing for next year, with Herbert ruling them out of any moves for Will Genia or Digby Ioane - the latter who is reportedly set to join the Crusaders. You never say never, guys whove done for this place what theyve done, youll always consider if they approach you and if there was a way to make it work, he said. But its not about rewinding the clock, we have to move forward.
