West Coast coach Adam Simpson admits his team wont make much of an impact during finals time if they dont get out of their current funk, but hes not panicking just yet.The Eagles (12-5) enter round 19 just percentage adrift of second spot following a five-match winning run; all against sides below them on the ladder. But their patchy form during that streak has been a huge concern, with the absence of star ruckman Nic Naitanui telling.West Coast were lucky to notch a six-point win over Melbourne last week after losing the inside-50m count 66-37.Naitanui (Achilles surgery) wont return until next weeks clash with Fremantle, meaning the Eagles will need to come up with a different way to generate enough attacking opportunities against Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday.A loss to Collingwood would prove disastrous to West Coasts top-four hopes, and Simpson is well aware the stakes are high. But rather than panic, Simpson said it was just a matter of helping the clubs mid-tier players rediscover the form they displayed during last years run to the grand final.I would have thought a few have dropped away, Simpson said.We need them stepping up.Our good players are playing well at the moment, we just need a few more contributors. The Eagles will start as favourites against both Collingwood and Fremantle. But their top-four hopes will be put to the test in the final three rounds, when they take on GWS (away), Hawthorn (home) and Adelaide (away).Simpson knows his team need to get out of their recent funk if they are to be a legitimate challenger for the premiership this year. You would have thought were not going to progress too far if we continue to play the same standard were playing at the moment, Simpson said.We understand that every game is critical for us at the moment because were fighting with six other sides for two or three spots up the top there. The challenge for us is we want to be a consistent top-four side, and were not there yet.I dont think having one good season gets you that right. Were still working towards that consistency with our sustained success. It doesnt necessarily mean youll win a premiership every year. But if you can be a contender and up amongst it, thats our ultimate goal.West Coast havent beaten Collingwood at the MCG since 1995, and Simpson said it was a challenge his team would embrace.Collingwood were dealt a triple injury blow when Alex Fasolo (shoulder), Jarryd Blair (groin), and Ben Sinclair (concussion) were all forced out this week.West Coast recalled Dom Sheed for his first AFL match of the season, while Will Schofield, Mark Hutchings and Simon Tunbridge also return to the side. ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has earned praise for developing quarterbacks throughout his career. He has also done wonders for another, much less glamorous position: Fullback.Senior Khalid Hill has four touchdowns, tied for the team lead for the No. 4-ranked Wolverines, who host No. 8 Wisconsin Saturday. While Hill says scoring touchdowns is the fun part of the job, the converted tight ends ability to block and protect the quarterback has Harbaugh believing he has an NFL future. Its a real natural position for him. Hes tough, hes got the size and the strength to be a prototypical type of fullback. Hes got the catching ability and has the added attribute of being able to run with the football, Harbaugh said. I think hell have a chance to play that position and make a career out of it, I really do.Looking a bit out of place wearing his No. 80 jersey in the backfield, the 6-foot-2, 263-pound Hill admits he is learning his new position on the fly at times. He took the blame for missing a block on blitzing Colorado defensive back Chidobe Awuzie that led to a sack of quarterback Wilton Speight and a scoop-and-score fumble return for the Buffaloes early in Michigans 45-28 win on Sept. 17.Still, he also knows hes a bit of a rare breed, playing well at a position that doesnt exist on many of todays college football rosters.People sleep on the fullback position, but we do a lot of hard work, said Hill, who shares the position with senior Henry Poggi, a converted defensive lineman. Its not easy to say Im about to go straight down the line and hit aa linebacker right in his face.ddddddddddddA lot of people dont want to do that.Hill has capitalized on his modest nine carries this season, scoring four times and converting two fourth-down chances. Last week against Penn State, he accomplished both: He scored the Wolverines first touchdown in a 49-10 win on a 4th-and-goal play from the 1-yard-line. Hill also has a career-high six receptions.Hill watches film of last years Michigan fullbacks, Sione Houma and Joe Kerridge, in hopes of picking up tips to improve his ball-carrying ability. Unlike Hill, those two played the fullback position for four years at Michigan. Like Hill, they flourished under Harbaugh in the coachs first season in Ann Arbor.Houma had as many special teams tackles (14) as he did yards of total offense (2 receptions, 14 yards) in his first three seasons. Last year, the long-haired son of Tongan immigrants became a fan favorite while rushing 43 times for 184 yards and five touchdowns. That wasnt the first time Harbaugh helped make a star out of a fullback. When Harbaugh coached Stanford, one of his most popular players was Owen Marecic, who also started at middle linebacker. While coaching the San Francisco 49ers, Harbaugh converted defensive end Bruce Miller into a fullback.I think the fullback position has given me another shot to really get out there, help the team and contribute, Hill said. Im proud of that and Im going to keep working and getting better. ' ' '
